Gil Fronsdal is a Guest Teacher in Warrior One’s Mindfulness in Law Teacher Training. A Norwegian-born, American Buddhist teacher, writer and scholar, Gil holds a PhD in Buddhist Studies from Stanford, and is the guiding teacher of the Insight Meditation Center of Redwood City. Gil has been practicing Buddhism in the Sōtō Zen and Vipassanā traditions since 1975. His teachers include Jack Kornfield of Spirit Rock Meditation Center, and Mel Weitsman, abbot of Berkeley Zen Center. Gil’s many talks contain basic information on meditation and also illuminate subtle concepts of mindfulness for those interested in secular study. Gil is noted for his analysis of the transformed role of sila, or ethics, in western mindfulness, and for his view that the popularity of mindfulness in middle-class America is related to its message regarding wisdom, unfettered by cultural and religious constraints.
