Demarris Evans is a Warrior One teacher. She is also a lecturer at San Francisco State University in the College of Ethnic Studies, where she lectures in the Department of Race and Resistance Studies. Demarris also teaches mindfulness, through the lens of equity, healing and human potential, and formerly led a weekly sitting meditation practice at the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office, where she was a trial lawyer for twenty years and worked in various capacities from capital cases to collaborative courts. She is a graduate of the Warrior One Mindfulness in Law Teacher Training program (class of 2016), the Dedicated Practitioners Program at Spirit Rock Meditation Center, and the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College. She is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Mindfulness in Law Society, where she chairs the Equity and Inclusion Division, and a co-facilitator for the Law and Social Change Jam. Demarris has been practicing mindfulness since the late 1990’s and has sat numerous silent, multi-day retreats. She obtained her JD from Santa Clara University and her BA from UC Berkeley.
